- strong surface strength
- breaking length of 3000m
- good ink absorbency
- stable shape
- does not easily crimp

- used in both lithography and offset printing
- can be printed on both sides
- maintains colour purity
Newsprint:
- outstanding for its loose elastic quality, which ensures stability of printed ink

writing paper:
- good for writing
- smooth
- water resitant
- light weight
- first choice for mass printing
Speciality Papers and Materials
Transparent Paper:
- made from vegetable parchment, sulphate or tracing paper, which is made from thick paper of vegetable fibres and treated with sulfuric acid.
Iridescent paper
- created with a fibre base, filling and coating
- uses iridescent particles
- particles are susceptable to erosion, makes it harder to apply ink.
- realtively expensive - reserved for high-end printing
Pressure laid paper
- created by exerting pressure on or crumpling paper to generate an uneven, patterned surface.
- enhances aesthetic value
- adds value to base of paper
Thermal Paper
- created by applying a coloured coat to the paper, the tint of which only shows when heat is applied.
