Studio Brief 4

Final Crit

For our final crit we presented our final outcomes. These were beer mats cut out of ply wood with a individual design ingraved on each mat.

Our feedback was as follows:

- Good idea but the final outcome looks a bit rushed. This is understandable as our first attemp at cutting was the outcome we presented.

- the designs could be refined further by adding colour and adjusting size

- Our peers really liked how each mat was individual to the venue.

- Freshers should find this engaging

- It would be good to see some colour in the designs. The final pieces could be block screen printed.

- The outcomes are really different to anything any one else had produced. The idea has been communicated well.

- It would be good to see the outcome in use. For example they could be photographed in the pubs.

- a map would add context. the concept is strong.

- laser cut was a good method to produce these. Colour would be a good addition.

The first 18 will be submitted as shown in the pictures below due to time restraints, however the further 5 sets could be developed to include some improvements discussed in the crit. The photos show the mats are slightly scorched around the edges. This can be fixed by sanding them down which will make them look cleaner. A varnish can also be added which will give a slight shine and make the wood a little bit darker.
