Interim crit
In this
crit I discussed my initial ideas in order to find out which one I should take
further and develop.
My first
idea was inspired by the work of Studio Laucke Siebein. It was thought that the
intention is valid, however, the typeface produced does not clearly show a
clear link with Studio Laucke Siebein’s work. I think it would be difficult to
show the influence without copying the design. I think it will be difficult to
develop this design further as I cannot find clear progression.
Idea 2,
influenced by the work of Morag Myerscough was well received. It was suggested
that I look at the colour palate Morag uses as the colour themselves are loud. I
should continue to develop the 3D element of this design by putting it into
illustrator.
Idea 3
included some scientific elements that may not be known without research. It meant
the design was not easily accessible or understood. Although the design doesn’t
immediately suggest the word ‘loud’, it produces interesting compositions and
it almost looks like it’s moving. I will not take this design further as it is
not appropriate for the rationale I am working to.
Idea 4 uses
the concept of digital representation of sound waves. This typeface would only
work on a large scale as it is too intricate to use at smaller points. It is
difficult to understand what the typeface stands for without the prompt of the
sound wave, because of this I will not take this design any further.
In conclusion,
I will continue to develop my second idea. I will introduce the design into
illustrator and bring colour to the design. I will also consider adding pattern
to the design, making it garish.
