John Cecil Stephenson
1908 - 1914
Abstract Artist and pioneer of Modernism
A painter of abstracts and figurative work, in 1919 Stephenson took on Sikert's studio in Hampstead, where he was later joined by Herbert Read, Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore. His paintings also show the influence of Hungarian artist Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, who taught at the Bauhaus in Germany before moving to London in 1935, living not far from Stephenson.

Ukrainian-born painter, Jacob Kramer was one of the first artists in England to exhibit expressionist paintings in 1912 and a central figure of the Leeds Art Movement in the 1930s.
